Australia’s wildlife faces a serious threat with the arrival of the H5N1 avian influenza virus. This outbreak is putting immense pressure on volunteer wildlife rescuers and hospitals, especially in Western Australia where government funding is absent. As a 100% volunteer organisation, we urgently need your donations to continue protecting and caring for affected animals during this critical time.

The Growing Challenge of H5N1 for Wildlife Rescuers
The H5N1 virus spreads rapidly among bird populations and can cause severe illness or death. Since its arrival in Australia, the number of sick and injured wildlife needing help has surged. Our volunteers are working around the clock to rescue, treat, and rehabilitate affected birds and other wildlife. This crisis adds to our daily workload, stretching our limited resources thin.
There is now the added requirement to establish facilties to isolate potentially affected birds and provide specialised quartentine care.
Without government funding, wildlife hospitals and rescuers are facing significant financial strain. Essential supplies like medical equipment and food cost money. Rescuing and transporting animals to care centres requires fuel and providing long-term rehabilitation also require funds. Every dollar donated directly supports these lifesaving efforts.
Why Your Support Makes a Difference
As a 100% volunteer-run organisation, we rely entirely on community generosity. Your donation helps us:
Purchase veterinary medicines and equipment
Provide nutritious food for recovering animals
Maintain safe and clean facilities for treatment
Train volunteers to handle infectious diseases safely
Cover transport costs to rescue and release wildlife
For example, during the recent H5N1 detections on the south coast of Western Australia, our wildlife rescuers were call upon to travel hundreds of kilomtres in their own vehicles to collect the seabirds and bring them in for testing, paying for the fuel out of their own pockets. Donations help covered these costs so we can keep on responsding to calls to isolate potential H5N1 cases.

The Road Ahead Depends on You

Your donation ensures that we can continue this vital work, even as challenges grow.
