A New Opportunity for Support

Individuals interested in supporting wildlife rescue, native plant propagation, environmental education, and the local wildlife hospital can now make tax-deductible donations. The Esperance Wildlife Sanctuary is a non-profit charity that has recently achieved deductible gift recipient status.

"This is a significant milestone for us," said coordinator Lori-Ann Shibish. "It enables any donation over $2 to be tax-deductible for the donor." This new status will significantly aid the operations of the Esperance Wildlife Sanctuary in their comprehensive efforts to rescue and rehabilitate wildlife.

The Impact of Donations

The sanctuary is also focused on restoring native habitats through their seedling nursery and planting projects. Additionally, they are committed to educating the community about the importance of wildlife conservation. Ms. Shibish provided a recent example of collaboration with Scaddan Primary School.

"Hakea laurena (pincushion hakea) seeds were given to the students, and they were taught how to plant them," Ms. Shibish said. "We are also growing some in the nursery for the 10th anniversary memorial of the Esperance bushfires, and the seedlings will be planted in the Scaddan area."

On average, the sanctuary cultivates over 1,000 native seedlings annually. This initiative not only engages the community but also contributes to the restoration of local ecosystems.

Comprehensive Wildlife Care

Esperance Wildlife Sanctuary is an incorporated association with various departments, including the native seed nursery, invasive species management, and the Esperance SWIRL Seabird and Waterbird Injury Rehabilitation and Learning Centre. This centre operates the Esperance Wildlife Hospital and a new environmental education program.

"In the first six months of 2025, we have admitted and treated just over 100 wildlife in need," Ms. Shibish noted. "Ongoing expenses include feed for the wildlife, medical costs, and soil for the seedlings."

These expenses highlight the importance of community support in sustaining the sanctuary's operations. Each donation plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of native wildlife and the restoration of their habitats.

How to Contribute

Those wishing to donate to or support these habitat and wildlife projects can do so directly. Donations can be made to Esperance Wildlife Sanctuary at BSB 066511 Acc 1034 3361. Alternatively, you can email esperancews@gmail.com or call 0452 561 313 for more information.

By contributing, you are not only supporting the sanctuary but also participating in a larger movement towards wildlife conservation. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference.

Conclusion

The Esperance Wildlife Sanctuary is committed to being the leading force in wildlife conservation in the Esperance-Goldfields area. We focus on rescuing and rehabilitating native animals while actively restoring their natural habitats to ensure the long-term survival of threatened species.

Your support through tax-deductible donations is vital. Together, we can make a significant impact on the future of our local wildlife and the environment.
